Photographer Nick Nichols spent a year planning the nearly impossible: a top-to-bottom photograph of a 300-foot-tall redwood tree for National Geographic.

The Tallest tree, called Hyperion, is a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) in RedWood National Park, Northern California, that was measured at 115.61 metres (379.3 ft).
